Her hands smoothed out the fabric, smooth and cool against her fingertips. As she looked at her reflection, she couldn’t help but smile. She felt beautiful.
Hearing a gasp, she turned her head.
Miwako stood there, eyes wide, hands covering her mouth. Her cheeks were growing just as pink as her hair as she stepped inside, skirts falling around her feet as she crossed the threshold, the heels of her shoes tapping lightly against the wooden floor.
She stopped in front of her, breathless. As she blinked, Yukari could see her long false lashes cast a shadow on her cheekbones.
For a long moment, they stared at each other in silent awe, until Yukari reached out to touch her, fingers grazing Miwako’s cheeks. Miwako’s giggle was soft, sweet in her ear. “That tickles.”
Yukari couldn’t help but laugh with her, bending down to press the softest of kisses to her lips, so as to not ruin her makeup mere minutes before they had to leave the room.
As she pulled back, Miwako took her hand, a wide smile on her face.
As they left the room hand in hand, stopping in front of the doors waiting to let them into the nave, she couldn’t help but feel her heart soar high up in the sky.
She turned to look at Miwako again, who had withdrawn her hand so she could adjust the ruffles of her dress with one hand, her bouquet clasped in the other. As she noticed her staring, she beamed up at her, taking her hand again, lace-covered fingers warm even through her long satin gloves.
She felt Miwako’s hand squeeze hers and as their eyes met, the love in her eyes made her almost feel bashful.
Yukari laced their fingers together, raising her bouquet as they heard the sound of music.
It had taken them years to get here, until they found each other again, to be together like this.
As the doors slipped open, the smile on her face was one of pure joy.
